Seventy-Five Black Bear Student-Athletes to Graduate

General Release - 5/9/2008

Seventy-five (75) University of Maine Black Bear student-athletes will be participating in graduation this Saturday, May 10, at Alfond Arena in Orono. This group of student-athletes includes those who completed degree requirements in December 2007, May 2008 and August 2008. In addition to the student-athletes, seven members of the cheer team and four student members of the athletic training staff will take part in the ceremonies this weekend.  More

Ashley Waters Named to Northeast All-Region Second-Team

University of Maine softball junior second baseman Ashley Waters has been named to the 2008 NFCA Northeast All-Region Second-Team. By earning a spot on the regional team, Waters' name and her accomplishments will now be forwarded onto the All-American selection meeting in Oklahoma City on May 26. More

Maine Falls to Binghamton 12-4

The University of Maine baseball team dropped a 12-4 decision to Binghamton on Friday afternoon in Vestal, N.Y. The Black Bears fall to 19-27-1 on the season and 7-14 in America East play. Binghamton improves to 26-24 on the season and 14-7 in conference play. More

Men's Ice Hockey Hands Out Awards at Annual Banquet

University of Maine football rising seniors Jovan Belcher and Jhamal Fluellen were named the 2008 co-captains following the conclusion of the Black Bears' 2008 spring practice schedule this past weekend. The captains were determined by a vote amongst team members, and were announced in a team meeting Friday afternoon following the final spring practice. More

Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) led the way for the Black Bears at the New England Track and Field Championships over the weekend. Simard took fourth in the triple jump and placed sixth in the long jump. (MORE)

Men's Track and Field
Toby Poirer (Lewiston, Maine) placed first in the javelin at the New England Track and Field Championships over the weekend with a throw of 200 feet-7 inches. The Black Bear men finished ninth out of 37 teams at the meet. (MORE)
