Eileen Flaherty was named Associate Athletic Director for
Compliance and Senior Women Administrator at the University of
Maine in July, 2010. Flaherty comes to Maine from Iowa State
University, where she served as Assistant Director of Compliance.
She has also worked in compliance at the University of Miami and
Barry University.
Flaherty comes to Maine with five years of compliance
experience at NCAA Division I FBS Institutions. She has a working
knowledge of all NCAA Division I rules and regulations, with
emphasis on recruiting, financial aid, award and benefits, and
playing and practice seasons. She was a four-year varsity athlete
at Bryant University and served as an assistant soccer coach for
two years.
At the University of Maine, Flaherty oversees NCAA recruiting
and compliance for all 17 of Maine's varsity sports. She works with
the NCAA in certifying athletics, and also monitors and enforces
all NCAA rules. Flaherty meets with coaches and student-athletes on
a daily basis. She also oversees the softball team. Flaherty
provides NCAA Bylaw interpretation to all of Maine's
student-athletes, coaches and staff. In addition, she serves as the
senior woman administrator in the athletic department.
Prior to coming to the University of Maine, Flaherty served as
the Assistant Director of Compliance at Iowa State University from
August 2006 to July 2010. While at Iowa State, she monitored
various activities including recruiting activities for coaches,
countable athletically related activities of teams and other
various things. She also worked extensively with Iowa State's
financial aid program.
Before Iowa State, Flaherty served as a Compliance Intern at
the University of Miami.
Flaherty worked at CIGNA HealthCare in Bloomfield, Conn., from
January 2000 - August 2004, ending as a Project Manager and working
in Internet Communications and Services.
Flaherty is a 1999 graduate of Bryant University with a degree
in business administration. She was a four-year student-athlete,
playing both soccer and basketball during her career with the
Bulldogs. She obtained her masters in sports management in 2006
from Barry University.
