Maine Accepting Nominations for 2013 Hall of Fame Class
ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine is once again accepting nominations for its Sports Hall of Fame. Nomination forms may be downloaded by clicking the link below. Nominations are due April 5, 2013.
The Hall of Fame was established in the mid-80’s in order to recognize former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and supporters for their high achievements and contributions to the success of Maine Athletics. Since 1986, 175 individuals have been honored with induction into the Hall of Fame.
The criteria for selection into the Hall of Fame is achievement in the athletic program, but other factors are also considered. They include character, leadership and integrity, as well as non-athletic service to the University community and achievement later in life. Nominees must be unaffiliated from the University of Maine for five years. The 2012 class included former women’s basketball standout Kim Corbitt (2005), men’s basketball’s Charlie Goddard (1950), hockey star Steve Kariya (1999), track and field record-holder Richard Nason (1964) and softball great Michelle Puls (1998).
