Kelly Newton and Andrew Rogers Win M Club Dean Smith Awards

The University of Maine announced on Sunday that Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) of the field hockey team and Andrew Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the men’s basketball team are the recipients of the 2012 “M” Club Dean Smith Awards. The awards are presented annually to the top male and female student-athlete with outstanding academic and athletic achievement along with citizenship and community service.
Men's Basketball's Second Half Rally Falls Short Against Vermont

The University of Maine men’s basketball team second half rally fell short as Vermont pulled away late for 73-63 win Monday in the Memorial Gym. Maine falls to 11-11 overall and 5-6 in America East play while Vermont goes to 16-10 and 10-2 in league play. Maine was led by its America East Player of the Game Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) who had 20 points.

Singleton's Free Throws in Overtime Propel Men's Basketball to 77-76 Win Over UMBC

Raheem Singleton’s (Boston, Mass.) free throws with under seven seconds remaining lifted the University of Maine men’s basketball team to a 77-76 overtime victory at UMBC on Saturday. Maine is now 11-10 overall and 5-5 in America East play while UMBC falls to 3-19 and 2-9 in league play.
Abbott Tallies Four Points as Maine Completes Weekend Sweep of Alabama-Huntsville

Spencer Abbott (Hamilton, Ontario) scored a goal and added three assists as the University of Maine men’s ice hockey team swept the weekend series from the University of Alabama-Huntsville with a 5-0 victory on Saturday night at Alfond Arena. The Black Bears extend their winning streak to six games with the win. Maine improves to 16-8-3 on the season, while the University of Alabama-Huntsville falls to 2-26-1.
Ott, Maine Shutout Vermont, 3-0

The University of Maine women’s hockey team shutout the University of Vermont by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Black Bears at 15-8-6 on the season and 9-6-2 in conference play. The nine wins in conference play ties the most conference wins in Black Bear history. Vermont falls to 4-18-6 on the season and 3-12-2 in conference play. Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia), Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) and Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.) all netted goals for Maine.
Samantha Baranowski
Samantha Baranowski (Stanhope, N.J.) averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds over the past week including a career-high 20 point performance in Maine's win over Binghamton. The senior tri-captain has now tallied double-figures in six-straight games while averaging 13.8 points per game in conference action.
Dan Sullivan
Dan Sullivan (York, Pa.) went 2-0-0 on the week as the University of Maine men's ice hockey team swept #2 Boston University. He finished with a 1.50 goals against average and a .957 save percentage. For his efforts, Sullivan was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. He made a career-high 38 saves in the win on Saturday night.
