Fran Whitten's Grand Slam Leads Maine Past Albany 8-3

Fran Whitten (Westborough, Mass.) belted a grand slam, his second home run in as many days, as the University of Maine baseball team defeated Albany 8-3 in an elimination game of the 2012 America East Tournament in Stony Brook, N.Y. The Black Bears stay alive to face the loser of the Stony Brook vs. Binghamton game which was scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Maine evens its record to 27-27 on the season, while Albany falls to 22-32-1.

Five Named to America East All-Conference Baseball Teams

Five University of Maine baseball players were honored with post-season recognition on Tuesday morning by the America East Conference. Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Shaun Coughlin (Northford, Conn.) were named to the America East First Team, while Stephen Perakslis (Abington, Mass.) and Tyler Patzalek earned a spot on the America East Second Team. Scott Heath (Westbrook, Maine) was named to the All-Rookie squad.
Baseball Travels to Stony Brook for America East Tournament

The University of Maine baseball team heads to the 2012 America East Tournament at Stony Brook this week looking to defend its 2011 title. Maine is the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament and will face 2012 regular season champion Stony Brook in the opening round. Albany and Binghamton will be in the other first round game of the double elimination tournament.

Baseball Ends Regular Season at Home to Stony Brook

The University of Maine baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond. The Black Bears fell in the first game 7-2 and dropped the second game 10-9. Maine falls to 26-26 on the season with the losses and 11-11 in America East play. Stony Brook improves to 43-11 overall, 21-3 in conference play.
Michael Fransoso
Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H) led the Black Bears to a pair of wins at Hartford last weekend. He batted .364 on the week with six runs scored and six RBI. He hit a three-run home in extra innings on the first game on Saturday that gave the Black Bears the win.
Corey Conner
Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) finished second in the 3,000-meter run at the ECAC Championships. She finished the run in 9:24.14.
