Flynn, O'Neill and Diamond Named Semi-Finalists for 2012 Walter Brown Award

University of Maine men's ice hockey seniors Brian Flynn (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Will O'Neill (Salem, Mass.) along with junior Joey Diamond (Long Beach, N.Y.) were named semi-finalists for the 2012 Walter Brown Award. There were 21 semi-finalists named to the Walter Brown Award, which is presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.

Kyle Beattie (Avondale, Ariz.) had a goal and an assist, while Matt Mangene (Miller Place, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal late in the second period as #12 Maine defeated #7 UMass Lowell 2-1 on Saturday night at Tsongas Arena. The Black Bears improve to 17-9-3 on the season and 12-8-2 in Hockey East play. UMass Lowell falls to 19-8-0, 14-7-0 in conference play.
Jean Stevens Honored by College Sports Madness

College Sports Madness has named softball sophomore Jean Stevens (Albany, Ore.) its Player of the Week for her exceptional performance in Maine's opening weekend at South Florida.

Jean Stevens (Albany, Ore.) had a solid opening weekend for the Black Bears' softball team. The sophomore went 6-for-12 with two home runs and a double while driving in a pair. Stevens also drew three walks and scored a pair of runs.
Matt Mangene
Matt Mangene (Miller Place, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists as the men's ice hockey team recorded a weekend split. He had a goal and two assists on Friday against Providence. Mangene then scored the game-winning goal on Saturday in Maine's 2-1 win over #7 UMass Lowell. With Maine's win the River Hawks, Maine moved to a tie for seventh place in the Pairwise rankings.
