Michael Fransoso Named to Chapel Hill All-Region Team
University of Maine sophomore shortstop Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named to the Chapel Hill All-Region Team following the conclusion of the final game on Sunday afternoon. Fransoso hit .333 for the Black Bears in three regional games with two runs scored and one RBI. He had a double and a triple and led the Black Bears with seven total bases. He was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases in the three games.

Maine Falls to James Madison 5-2 in NCAA Regionals
The University of Maine baseball team saw its post-season run come to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to James Madison University in the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The Black Bears see their season end at 33-24. Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the Maine offense in the game as he had a double and a triple.

Gibbs' Two-Hitter Leads Maine Past FIU 4-1 In NCAA Regional
Jeffrey Gibbs (Toronto, Ontario) allowed just two hits over eight innings, while Tyler Patzalek (Burlington, Ontario) reached base five times as the University of Maine baseball team defeated Florida International University 4-1 in the Chapel Hill Regional off the NCAA baseball tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears will now face the loser of the #3 UNC vs. James Madison game on Sunday, June 5 at 1 PM.

Maine Battles #3 North Carolina Tough in NCAA Regional
The University of Maine baseball team fell to third ranked North Carolina 4-0 on Friday evening in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. North Carolina scored all four of its runs in the first inning. The Black Bears out hit the Tar Heels 7-5 in the game. Maine falls to 32-23 on the season, while North Carolina improves to 46-14.

Maine Baseball Pre-Game Gathering to be Held at Spanky's Restaurant in Chapel Hill
The America East Champion Maine Black Bears will open NCAA Tournament play this Friday night, facing top-seeded North Carolina at 6 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill. For those traveling to the game, please join fellow Black Bear fans beforehand at Spanky’s Restaurant from 3-5 p.m. Spanky’s is located at 101 East Franklin Street (a short drive from the stadium).

Bilodeau Gem Leads Maine Past Binghamton in America East Tournament
Keith Bilodeau (Bourne, Mass.) picked up his 10th win of the season and led the University of Maine baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Binghamton in the first round of the 2011 America East Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. He allowed just seven hits, retired 16 straight batters at one point and sent down all nine lead-off hitters. Maine improves to 30-22 on the season, while Binghamton falls to 21-27.

University of Maine baseball pitcher Shaun Coughlin (Northfield, Conn.) was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. In his first collegiate start, Coughlin pitched a complete game in Maine's 5-1 victory over St. Peter's on Sunday afternoon.

The University of Maine baseball team swept a pair of games on Sunday afternoon in the Fairleigh Dickinson Tournament. The Black Bears defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 5-1 in the first game of the day and followed that up with a 5-1 victory over St. Peter’s in the second game. Ian Leisenheimer (Middle Village, N.Y.) had a three-run triple in the game, while A.J. Bazdanes (Nashua, N.H) picked up his first win of the season with eight strong innings on the mound.. Maine improves to 7-16 on the season with the win, while FDU falls to 4-12.

The University of Pennsylvania relied on several multi-run innings to slip past The University of Maine 7-4 on Monday afternoon in Winter Park, Fla. Penn scored two in the second to take a one run lead, three in the fourth to take another one run lead, and then two in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Maine falls to 3-9 while Penn jumps to 1-2 on the season.

Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement
he University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 239 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. One-hundred seventy four student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2010 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-five first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 239, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.
