PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The University of Maine baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision on Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon in Port Charlotte, Fla. Maine, which snapped its four-game winning streak, falls to 4-6 on the season. Western Michigan improves to 2-9 on the campaign.
Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Bradon Cable singled to right center and scored when Hunter Prince doubled down the right field line. It proved to be the lone run of the game.
Tommy Lawrence (West Haven, Conn.) got the start on the mound for the Black Bears. He allowed one run on eight hit and falls to 1-1 on the season. He struck out five batters in the game while allowing just one walk over six innings. Shaun Coughlin (Northford, Conn.) pitched two scoreless inning in relief.
Mike Moyer went 7.1 innings for Western Michigan and did not allow a run on three hits. He was replaced by Gabe Berman who got the save, going 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.
Maine returns to action when it faces Chicago State at 5:30 PM on Saturday afternoon.
