Baseball Falls to Georgetown 8-3
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The University of Maine baseball team fell to Georgetown 8-3 on Thursday afternoon in Port Charlotte, Fla. Maine falls to 6-9 on the season, while Georgetown improves to 5-4 on the season.
Maine scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Nick DeFrank (Mulica HIll, N.J.) and Michael Franososo (Portsmouth, N.H.) each crossed the plate for the Black Bears. Fransoso doubled and scored Maine's third run in the top of the fifth inning.
Georgetown scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead. The Hoyas added three more in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 8-3 victory.
Logan Fullmer (Lebanon, Pa.) went six innings on the mound and allowed six runs, four of which were earned, on six hits. He falls to 1-1 on the season. Burk FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa.) went 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Jake Marks (Sarnia, Ontario) went the final two thirds of an inning and did not allow a hit.
Gino Basso went 3.1 innings for Georgetown and allowed two runs on five hits. He was replaced by Tim Davis who went 1.2 innings and allowed one run. Will Brown pitched the final four innings for the Hoyas and allowed just three hits.
Maine returns to action on Friday, March 8 when it faces Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM.
