ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine baseball junior Scott Heath (Westbrook, Maine) was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday, while Steve Trask (Saco, Maine) was named the Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Heath had an amazing week for the Black Bears, hitting .529 with six runs scored and 11 RBI. He belted three home runs on the week and finished with a .579 on-base percentage and a 1.118 slugging percentage. It is the second time this season that Heath has been honored by America East, as he was named the America East Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17 after picking up a victory over #13 Miami.
Heath went 7-for-8 with six runs scored and nine RBI in Maine's doubleheader sweep of UMBC on Friday. He had a grand slam and seven RBI in Maine's 17-0 win in the first game. He followed that up by hitting two home runs in the second game of the doubleheader. He also picked up a win on the mound in the second game. Heath allowed two runs on four hits in Maine's 8-4 victory.
Trask was named America East Co-Pitcher of the Week. He got his first career start on Senior Day and pitched an amazing 11.2 innings. Trask allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out four. Opponents hit just .171 against him in the game. Trask had pitched just 22 career innings prior to Sunday's start.
Maine returns to action in the 2014 America East Tournament which begins on Thursday, May 22 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. The Black Bears open against Stony Brook on Thursday at 2 PM.
