Men's Basketball Signs Jon Mesghna

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's basketball head coach Ted Woodward has announced the signing of Jon Mesghna to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University in the fall and play for the men's basketball team.

"It is a very exciting day for us to add Jonathan to our basketball team," said Woodward. "He is a very experienced player with a great understanding of the game; a high-level shooter, great size and length which he uses to produce on both ends of the court and the glass. He has tremendous versatility, and mature leadership qualities both on and off the floor.  He is a great student and campus leader, and will be able to contribute to our team in many different ways.  We are thrilled to have him join our program!"

Mesghna, a 6-6, 205 lbs. forward from Frankfurt, Germany, played this season for the North Dakota State College of Science. He was second on the team with 13.3 points per game and led the Wildcats with 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from long range. He also shot 83.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Mesghna led his NDSCS squad to a conference and Region XIII Championship, scoring 28 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the Region title game. He garnered First Team All-Conference honors and was named to the President's Honor Roll as the Wildcats finished the season ranked #11 in the final NJCAA Poll.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
