Men's Basketball Hosts Acadia in Exhibition on Saturday

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team hosts Acadia University in an exhibition contest on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Memorial Gym.

Storylines

The University of Maine men's basketball team finishes its exhibition season with a game against Acadia, which is 6-0 in preseason play.


The Black Bears return three starters in 2011-12 All-Conference players Mike Allison (All-Defensive), Alasdair Fraser (Third Team) and Justin Edwards (All-Rookie).


Fraser was named to the America East and College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference First Teams while Edwards (CSM First Team) and Allison (CSM Second Team) also garnered honors.


Maine is coming off an 82-39 win over Laval.


Maine shot 57.1 percent from the field while holding Laval to 32 percent shooting in the contest.


Allison had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead Maine while Fraser had 15 points, five assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Zarko Valjarevic added 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from long range.

Acadia is coming off a 91-76 win over Guelph behind Owen Klassen's 37 points and 14 rebounds while three other players scored in double digits.

Maine is coming off a 12-17 (6-10 America East) campaign that included a win over Atlantic-10 squad Rhode Island.

The Black Bears were picked to finish fifth in America East according to the preseason coaches' poll

Maine opens the regular season on Nov. 10 at Dartmouth.
