Fraser Leads Men's Basketball to a 73-40 Win Over Acadia
ORONO, Maine – Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) had 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead the University of Maine men's basketball team to a 73-40 win over Acadia University in an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon in the Memorial Gymnasium.
Fraser scored eight points in a 19-5 Maine run to open the game that was capped by a Zarko Valjarevic
(Belgrade, Serbia) midway through the opening half.
Acadia closed the gap to 22-13 with just over seven minutes to play, but Fraser added another eight points to help the Black Bears take a 36-21 lead at intermission.
Fraser had 18 points and 14 rebounds in the first half while Jon Mesghna
(Frankfurt, Germany) added five points, three rebounds and three steals. Maine held Acadia to 24.2 percent shooting in the first half.
(Whitby, Ontario) and Xavier Pollard
(Bronx, N.Y.) each scored six points to open the second half as Maine raced out to a 48-21 lead.
Maine never looked back and expanded the lead to as much as 36 at 70-34 late in the second half before cruising to the win.
Edwards finished with 19 points and three assists while freshman Shaun Lawton
(Harlem, N.Y.) had a game-high five assists to go with five rebounds and six points.
Maine had a commanding 59-42 advantage in rebounding while shooting 41 percent and holding Acadia to 26.2 percent.
Anthony Ashe led Acadia with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Maine opens its regular season on Nov. 10 at Dartmouth.
