Men's Basketball Travels to Dartmouth for Season Opener

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team opens the season on Saturday at Dartmouth. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on the Black Bear Sports Network.

Storylines

The University of Maine men's basketball team opens the season at Dartmouth. 

The Black Bears return three starters in 2011-12 All-Conference players Mike Allison (All-Defensive), Alasdair Fraser (Third Team) and Justin Edwards (All-Rookie).

Fraser was named to the America East and College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference First Teams while Edwards (CSM First Team) and Allison (CSM Second Team) also garnered honors.

Maine is coming off a 73-40 win over Acadia in an exhibition contest.

The Black Bears were led by Alasdair Fraser (22 points and 18 rebounds) and Justin Edwards (19 points).

Maine is coming off a 12-17 (6-10 America East) campaign that included a win over Atlantic-10 squad Rhode Island. 

The Black Bears were picked to finish fifth in America East according to the preseason coaches' poll.

The Big Green is coming off a 5-25 season but returns three starters and eight letterwinners.

Dartmouth was selected eighth in the Ivy League preseason poll.

Maine has won its last four season-opening contests.
