ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team hosts the defending America East Champion Vermont on Beach Night in the Alfond Arena on Tuesday evening. Fans dressed in their best beach attire will have the chance to win cash prizes and there will be giveaways throughout the game. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The University of Maine men's basketball team (7-11, 2-3) plays host to the defending America East Champions Vermont Catamounts (12-6, 5-1).
The Black Bears are coming off a tough, last second 57-56 loss to Binghamton.
Maine was led by Justin Edwards who had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Vermont is coming off an 81-73 win over defending America East Regular Season Champion Stony Brook.
Clancy Rugg had 19 points and 15 rebounds while Candon Rusin had 25 points.
The Black Bears played the Catamounts three times last season, falling 79-65 in Burlington, 73-63 in Orono and 50-40 in the America East Tournament.
Edwards averaged 13.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the three games while Mike Allison averaged 9.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks.
The game features two of the top-3 rebounding players in the league with Maine's Alasdair Fraser (2nd-8.7 rpg) and Vermont's Brian Voelkel (3rd-8.4 rpg).
Maine's Xavier Pollard notched seven assists against Binghamton and now has 102 for his career while Edwards notched his 250th rebound against the Bearcats.
Maine's Mike Allison currently has 109 blocks which put him fifth in program history, and also has 431 rebounds; should he grab 500 rebounds he would be just the second player in program history to notch 500 rebounds and 100 blocks (Jeff Cross, 1981-84).
