Men's Basketball Heads to America East Tournament
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University of Maine men's basketball team heads to the America East Tournament to play the host school, Albany, on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The University of Maine men's basketball team (11-18, 6-10) plays the host school, University at Albany, in the America East Quarterfinals.
The Black Bears are coming off a 79-74 loss at New Hampshire in their regular season finale.
Albany is coming off a 75-70 loss at America East Regular Season Champion Stony Brook.
Jacob Iati and Mike Black each scored 17 points to lead the Great Danes.
Maine and Albany each won on their home court during the regular season, with the Black Bears winning 66-52 and the Great Danes winning 76-63.
Alasdair Fraser averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the contests; Justin Edwards averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 steals; Zarko Valjarevic 13.0 points; Xavier Pollard 11.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds; Mike Allison 7.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks.
Fraser and Allison both joined Jeff Cross (1980-84) as the only Black Bears in program history to have at least 500 rebounds and 100 blocks (blocks became stat at Maine in 1980).
Edwards and Fraser are both looking for their second-consecutive 20-point scoring efforts, with Edwards looking for his seventh of the season and Fraser his sixth.
The winner of the game plays the #1 Stony Brook vs. #8 Binghamton winner.
