UMaine Buys out a Year of Head Coach Ted Woodward's Contract
University of Maine President Paul Ferguson has announced that the university will buy out the contract of men’s basketball head coach Ted Woodward, ending his tenure as coach effective April 14, 2014. The decision was reached after several weeks of evaluation of the program by Director of Athletics Karlton Creech and university administration.

Stony Brook Ousts Maine Men's Basketball From Postseason, 80-54
ALBANY, N.Y. – The No. 1 ranked offense in America East, Maine men’s basketball, struggled to score points as the team fell in its quarterfinal matchup against Stony Brook on Saturday evening, 80-54. The Black Bears recorded their lowest point total of the season in the process as the squad’s America East title bid was abruptly halted.

Pollard Named to the America East Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team
ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior guard, Xavier Pollard has been the team’s most consistent offensive threat in 2013-14 and the Bronx, N.Y., native was honored for that by the conference on Friday evening as he was named to the America East, All-Conference third team for his efforts this season.

The 2013-14 regular season has come to an end as the Black Bears finished the year as the seventh seed in the tournament. Maine finished the season with a 4-12 conference record and will play the No. 2 seeded Stony Brook on March 8 beginning at 6 p.m.

Maine Men’s Basketball Completes Season Sweep of New Hampshire in Season Finale, 73-69
BANGOR, Maine – The Maine men’s basketball team ended the campaign on high note on Sunday, completing the season sweep of rival New Hampshire in the final game of the regular season, 73-69, at the Cross Insurance Center. This is the second time in three seasons the Black Bears have completed the sweep and helps them improve to 6-22 overall and 4-12 in the conference, while UNH drops to 6-23 and 4-12 in America East play.

Akanda-Coronel Named America East Player of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore guard, Dimitry Akanda-Coronel fueled the Black Bears to their first victory in over one month with his 27-point effort against Middle Tennessee on Sunday and was honored by the America East conference for his efforts, earning the America East Player of the Week award. This is the first time this season that Maine has received the honor and is the first of Akanda-Coronel’s career.

Akanda-Coronel Sparks Thrilling OT Win over Middle Tennessee State, 89-85
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Maine men’s basketball team tallied its first win in over a month on Sunday night as the team was sparked by Dimitry Akanda-Coronel and the return of junior forward Kilian Cato as the Black Bears upset Middle Tennessee State, 89-85 in overtime, at the Dr. Pepper Classic. The win is teams first since Nov. 10 against Fisher and is the squad’s first defeat of a division I team in 2013-14. The victory improves Maine’s record to 2-9 while the Blue Raiders drop to 8-5.

The Black Bears have played three regular season games so far this year, two on the road against Rhode Island and George Washington and one at Memorial Gym, in Orono, Maine. This however, will be the first at the new facility. The Black Bears enter the contest 1-2 with two losses to the Rams and Colonials while defeating the Fisher Falcons.

Lawton Sets New Career-High But Men’s Basketball Falls to George Washington, 108-81
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Shaun Lawton took full advantage of his first start of his sophomore season recording a new career-high in points but it wasn’t enough as Maine was defeated, 108-81 to George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center on Tuesday night. Lawton tallied 23 total points, breaking his previous career high of 12.

ORONO, Maine – The Black Bears men’s basketball team had five different players tally double-digit point totals as the squad recorded its first win of the season, downing Fisher, 111-64, in Memorial Gym on Sunday, afternoon. The win pushes the Black Bear record to 1-1 on the season with Fisher falling to 1-2 overall.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Rhode Island In 100th Meeting
KINGSTON, R.I. – Xavier Pollard and Dimitry Akanda-Coronel both led the way with career-high point totals but Rhode Island had four players with double-digits as they defeated Maine men’s basketball, 97-77 in Kingston Rhode Island. The game was the Black Bears first of the season and the 100th meeting between the two schools as the win pushes the series lead to 86-14 in favor of the Rams.

Men's Basketball Kicks Off The Season Against Rhode Island
The Maine Black Bears kick off the regular season portion of their schedule this coming weekend when they travel to Kingston, R.I. to take on the Rhode Island Rams. The game is slated for Friday, Nov. 8 at, 7:30 p.m. Maine will then head home and plays Fisher at Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday, Nov 10 beginning at 3 p.m. The Black Bears will then return home for a quick turn around when the team plays Fisher on Sunday, Nov. 10. Valjarevic Shines As Men's Basketball Defeats McGill, 83-57

Maine Men's Basketball Announces Open Practice
ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men’s basketball team is only three days away from officially opening the 2013-14 practice schedule. The Black Bears first official practice is set for Friday, Sept. 27, which will kick off the practice season for the latest edition of the men’s basketball squad. The team also announced today that there will be a practice that is open to the public on Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., slated to take place at the New Balance Student Recreation Center, on the Maine campus. Fans are welcomed and encouraged to get their first glimpse of this year’s squad.

Pollard started for the Black Bears in 27 of their 30 contests averaging 9.7 ppg, and 4.27 apg (4th in the league). He is the second-leading returning assist-man in the league. Pollard averaged 3.6 ppg as a freshmen for the Black Bears.
