ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior guard, Xavier Pollard has been the team's most consistent offensive threat in 2013-14 and the Bronx, N.Y., native was honored by the conference on Friday evening as he was named to the America East, All-Conference third team for his efforts this season.
Pollard comes into the conference tournament averaging 14.9 points, which is tied for fourth, with UMBC's Rodney Elliot, on the America East scoring chart, while his points per-game mark tops all Maine shooters.
The third-year player may be Maine's most complete player as he ranks highly both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. He is second on the team in rebounds per game (4.4) and ranks second in the conference in steals per game with a 1.7 mark.
Pollard was honored by the conference earlier in the year being named as its Player of the Week for doing it all against New Hampshire and UMBC on Feb. 2. In two games Pollard averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals.
Pollard has had best campaign this season registering a career-high 342 points and currently sits with 722 career points with one season of eligibility left. He passed the 500 point mark earlier in the season when he recorded eight points against Binghamton on Jan. 5, 2014.
Pollard will look to do something that hasn't be done in Maine men's basketball history in defeating a No. 2 seed in the America East tournament. The Black Bears are 0-11 when facing the No. 2 seed and in all of America East history it's only been done once, with a 1-27 record. The Black Bears play Stony Brook on ESPN3 on Saturday, March 8 beginning at 6 p.m.
