Football Falls to Albany in Defensive Struggle

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine football team fell to the University at Albany by the score of 3-0 on Thursday evening. With the loss, Maine falls to 0-1 on the year while Albany moves to 1-0. The Black Bears were led by Jerron McMillian (Hillside, N.J.) who notched 13 tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Albany's Herb Glass converted the only points of the game off an interception, making a 21 yard field goal midway through the first quarter.

Maine continued to battle, and Chris Treister (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) nearly gave the Black Bears the lead, but his pass to Tyrell Jones (Gaithersburg, Md.) fell just out of his reach in the endzone.

Jared Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine) had a nice game on the ground, rushing for 90 yards, including a nice 21-yard run.

Donte Dennis (Rahway, N.J.) had a solid game with eight tackles and a sack while newcomer Omar Jacobs (Oakland, Calif.) also added a sack.

Maine returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Monmouth.
