ORONO, Maine--Brian Harvey's (Wayland, Mass.) 37-yard field goal in the first overtime gave the University of Maine football team a 16-13 overtime victory over No. 14 New Hampshire. The Black Bears also won the Brice-Cowell Musket given to the Maine-New Hampshire winner. Maine is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in CAA play while New Hampshire is 2-3 and 0-2 in league play.

Maine got on the board first 1:35 into the second quarter when Warren Smith (Forked River, N.J.) found Jeff Falvey (Cicero, N.Y.) for a tough 11-yard touchdown catch. The score completed a nine play, 75-yard drive.

New Hampshire would answer with a Mike MacArthur 32-yard field goal, and Maine held a 6-3 edge at halftime.

The Wildcats would add a touchdown in the third quarter courtesy of a 5-yard R.J. Toman pass to Terrance Fox and a MacArthur 47-yard field goal that hit the crossbar and went over with 2:47 left in the game to take a 13-6 lead.

Maine would answer when Smith found Derek Buttles (Pike, N.Y.) in the corner of the endzone with two defenders on him to tie the game with 1:12 left in the contest.

On the ensuing drive, the Wildcats got down to the Maine 16-yardline and attempted a field goal. The Black Bears rushed through the middle and Brent Rice (Jersey City, N.J.) was able to block it to send the game into overtime.

New Hampshire had the first opportunity to score in the extra frame, but Jerron McMillian (Hillside, N.J.) intercepted the pass to give Maine the ball and the chance to win the game that Harvey converted.

Shawn Bodtman (Scranton, Pa.) had a huge game for Maine, forcing a fumble and intercepting his first collegiate pass while Vinson Givans (Cambridge, Mass.) also had a great game with 12 tackles, including 2.0 tackles-for-loss and an interception.

Smith finished with 253 yards passing and two touchdowns while Jared Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine) rushed for 71 yards. Derek Session (Baltimore, Md.) caught five passes for 104 yards.
