Football Travels to Battle Boston College on Saturday

Notes

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine football team travels to take on Atlantic Coach Confrence-foe Boston College on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN3 and can be heard on the Black Bear Sports Network.

Storylines

The University of Maine football team (0-0) plays its 1,000th game in program history in its season opener against the Boston College Eagles (0-1).

Maine is coming off a 9-4 campaign a year ago, advancing to the NCAA Final Eight and finishing at #8 in the final national rankings

Maine and Boston College last met in 2006, a 22-0 Eagle win.

Maine battled at Pittsburgh last season and fell 35-29; the 29 points are the most Maine has scored on a FBS team.

Maine will be playing an FBS team as its season-opener for the first time since 2008 at Iowa.

Maine tied for the league high with five Preseason All-CAA selections (Michael Cole, DL, Justin Perillo, TE, Chris Howley and Josh Spearin, OL and Maurice McDonald, WR) including leading the league with four on the offensive side of the ball.

Maine named Marcus Wasilewski its starting quarterback after a battle between him and John Ebeling, although Ebeling will still see playing time at the wide receiver position.

The Black Bears will be looking to make a run to the postseason for the third time in five years, which would be a program first.

Maine head coach Jack Cosgrove served as an offensive assistant with the Eagles from 1985-86 under former Maine coach Jack Bicknell; in 1986, the Eagles advanced to the Hall of Fame Bowl and finished with a 9-3 record.
