Michael Cole Earns National Honor
ORONO, Maine – University of Maine football standout Michael Cole has been named the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Defensive Player of the Week and National Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Cole, a junior defensive end from North Brunswick, N.J., had a pair of sacks for a loss of 18 yards and a forced fumble at Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College on Saturday. Cole helped the defensive line limit the Eagles' potent offense to just 385 total yards.
Also honored by the CFPA was sophomore punter Jeffrey Ondish. Ondish, a sophomore from Elkton, Md., earned a Punter Performer of the Week honorable mention after punting eight times for 356 yards (44.5 avg.) with a long of 63 and one punt inside the 20-yardline.
Maine returns to action on Saturday at Bryant.
