Football Plays Albany in Home Opener on Saturday


ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine football team plays its home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Albany Great Danes. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 581-BEAR or toll-free (800) 756-TEAM.

Game Storylines

The University of Maine football team (1-1) plays its home opener and final non-conference game of the season against the Albany Great Danes (2-1).

Maine is coming off a 51-7 win at Bryant. 

Maine RB David Hood rushed for 102 yards and two scores while fellow RB Rickey Stevens rushed for 168 yards.

Maine DB Kendall James returned an interception a school-record tying 100 yards for a score while DB Khari Al-Mateen returned an interception 77 yards for a  score; the 177 return yards set a team record previously set of 160 yards in 1962 against Bowdoin.

QB Marcus Wasilewski went 14-20 for 229 yards and a 75-yard touchdown to WR Derrick Johnson.

The win gave Maine its fourth-straight over a non-conference regular season FCS opponent.

Albany is coming off a close 31-24 loss at #5 Youngstown State.

QB Will Flacchi went 23-35 for 228 yards and two TDs while WR Cole King made seven receptions for 115 yards and a score.

Last year in Albany, Maine jumped out to a 24-0 lead and took the contest 31-15.

TE Justin Perillo made six catches for 57 yards and a TD while DB Darlos James made four tackles and an INT to lead the defense.

Maine WR Maurice McDonald has 84 career catches and is 100 yards receiving shy of 1,000 for his career.
