Football Defeats Rhode Island in Season Finale 55-6
KINGSTON, R.I. – Rickey Stevens (Rochester, N.Y.) and Nigel Jones (Pleasantville, N.J.) each rushed for over 100 yards as the University of Maine football team defeated Rhode Island 55-6 in the season finale for the Black Bears in Kingston, R.I. Maine finishes its season at 5-6 overall and 4-4 in CAA play while Rhode Island finishes 0-11 and 0-8 in league play.
Maine got on the board first when Wasilewski rolled to his left and threw across his body to an open Justin Perillo (Wilmington, Del.) in the right-back corner of the endzone for the score. Stevens had a key 35-yard run in the 5-play, 69-yard drive.
Wasilewski put Maine up 21-0 when he found Arthur Williams (Springfield, Mass.) for a 13-yard score to complete a 10-play, 79-yard drive two minutes into the second quarter.
Rhode Island responded with a Bob Bentsen two-yard score, but on the ensuing kickoff Damarr Aultman (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) returned it 94 yards for the touchdown.
Perillo finished the scoring in the first half with a 12-yard reception from Wasilewski and Maine took a 34-6 lead into halftime.
Maine got on the board five minutes into the third on a 24-yard score by Stevens and Williams added a 42-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth.
