Justin Perillo Inks Free Agent Deal With Green Bay Packers
ORONO, Maine -- Justin Perillo (Wilmington, Del.) has signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers, reported by Mike Loyko of NEPatriotsDraft.com and USA Today. Perillo was the second Maine football senior to join an NFL team, joining Kendall James, who was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

Achey, Mangiarelli, Wasilewski Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society
University of Maine football student-athletes Arron Achey (Newmanstown, Pa.), Michael Mangiarelli (Warren, Ohio) and Marcus Wasilewski (Kulpmont, Pa.) have been named to the 2014 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

Mulumba Tshimanga Named ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year; Gakos, James Honored
University of Maine freshman linebacker Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga (Montreal, Que.) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Rookie of the Year, as announced on March 27 in the Lexus Club at MetLife Stadium at the annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet. Two other Black Bears received honors as Jeff Gakos (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Kendall James (Roselle, N.J.) were each honored to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) ECAC All-Star Team.

University of Maine redshirt freshman linebacker Christophe Mulumba (Montreal, Que.), redshirt freshman defensive tackle Patrick Ricard (Spencer, Mass.) and head coach Jack Cosgrove have eached received another post-season honor to add to the already impressive list. Mulumba was named to the College Sports Journal FCS All-Freshman First Team while Ricard earned second team accolades. The #25 University of Maine football team (3-1, 0-0 CAA) held tough against the Football Bowl Subdivision's (FBS) #18/16 Northwestern Wildcats (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) but fell in the end by a score of 35-21 on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field. The Black Bears outgained Northwestern 379-373 and were led on offense by senior tight end Justin Perillo (Wilmington, Del.) who hauled in eight catches for 81 yards and a score.

Quarterback Marcus Wasilewski (Kulpmont, Pa.) matched a career-high with four touchdown passes as he helped lead the University of Maine football team to a 35-22 win over visiting Bryant on Saturday evening at Alfond Stadium. The win gives Maine its first 3-0 start since 2002 while Bryant falls to 2-1.

Football Knocks Off Old Rival, FBS Program UMass, 24-14
The University of Maine football team won its second ever game against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent when it defeated UMass 24-14 on Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium. Maine last defeated an FBS school when it beat Mississippi St. 9-7 in 2004. The win moves Maine to 2-0 on the year.

Football Defeats Norfolk St. 23-6 in Season Opener
Just when it felt like Norfolk St. was gaining some second half momentum, Maine quarterback Marcus Wasilewski (Kulpmont, Pa.) rolled out off play-action and found a streaking Zedric Joseph (West Palm Beach, Fla.) for an 85-yard touchdown catch and run. The score gave Maine a 20-6 lead which it would not relinquish as it picked up its first win of the season, defeating Norfolk St. 23-6 on Saturday evening.
