ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine football team held its annual postseason awards banquet on Friday, May 2 at Wells Conference Center. Several were honored for achievements from the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Championship season.
Team award winners are listed below:
Harold Westerman Award – Most Valuable Player:
Marcus Wasilewski – Chuck Boone Leadership award winner … CAA First-Team All-Conference … New England FCS Gold Helmet Player of the Year … CAA Student-Athlete of the Year … "M" Club Dean Smith Award Recipient … New England Gold Helmet Weekly Winner (9/18) … Beyond Sports Network Honorable Mention All-American … CAA Co-Player of the Week (10/21) … Set school records for most completions (276), passing percentage (67.5), passing yards in a season (3,238), total offensive plays (565) and total offensive yards (3,770) … Finished his career as just the second quarterback in program history to pass for over 3,000 yards in a season, capping his senior season with 25 passing touchdowns - the second-highest single-season total in team history … Rushed 156 times for 532 yards and three touchdowns … started all 13 games … ranked second in the league in passing average per game (249.1) … third in pass efficiency (149.8) … third in total offense (290.0) … third in total offensive touchdowns (28) … second in pass completion percentage (67.5) … Completed his Black Bears career with 6,564 total yards and 52 touchdowns.
Jack Butterfield Outstanding Offensive Player:
John Ebeling – CAA All-Conference third team … Played in 13 games with 12 starts … Led team in receiving with 60 catchers for 647 yards and six touchdowns … Averaged 10.8 yards per catch and 49.8 receiving yards per game … also rushed 19 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns … ranked tied for seventh in the league in receptions (60) and fifth in reception touchdowns (6).
Sam Sezak Outstanding Offensive Lineman:
Jeff Gakos – CAA First Team All-Conference … FCS All-New England Team … Division-I FCS ECAC All-Star Team … Beyond Sports Network All-America Third Team … … started all 13 games in 2013 and 35 total, second most among active Black Bears … Helped anchor an offensive line which ranked second in the league in pass offense (253.7), fifth in scoring offense (30.0), fifth in total offense (429.8) and fifth in rushing offense (176.2). Gakos assisted in paving the way for three 500+ yard rushers for the Black Bears.
Walter Abbott Outstanding Defensive Player Award:
Kendall James – Participated in NFL Scouting Combine … CAA First Team All-Conference … Associated Press All-American Second Team … The Sports Network All-American First Team … FCS All-New England Team … Division-I FCS ECAC All-Star Team … Beyond Sports Network All-America Third Team … led a Maine secondary which allowed a league-low 176.9 passing yards per game. James totaled 36 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, to go along with two interceptions, nine pass breakups and a blocked a field goal attempt. James, Maine's active leader in games started at 38, recorded his 100th career unassisted tackle earlier in the year … Ranked ninth in the league in passes defended per game (0.83)
Roger Ellis Outstanding Defensive Lineman Award:
Michael Cole – CAA All-Conference Second Team … Maine's All-Time Leader in Sacks (29.0) … finished the regular season ranked second in the CAA in sacks per game (0.80) … Totaled 8.0 sacks in nine games … Spearheaded Maine's pass rush while accumulating 27 tackles, including 11.0 for loss, to go along with three pass breakups, a forced fumble and tallied his first career interception … Ranked second in the league in sacks per game (0.80), tied for fourth in total sacks (8.0) and eighth in tackles for loss per game (1.10).
Woody Carville Student-Athlete Achievement Award:
Jamal Clay – Started 11 games … recorded 47 tackles, including 4.0 for loss and a sack, to go along with four pass breakups … named College Sports Madness Defensive Player of the Week after recording seven tackles, six solo and one assist, in the Black Bears 24-14 win over FBS member UMass at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7. Clay spearheaded a Maine defense that allowed just 265 total yards and held the Minutemen to only 65-yards rushing.
Ron Rogerson Spirit/Dedication Award:
Rickey Stevens – Led Maine's rushing attack with 128 carries for 762 yards and six touchdowns … averaged 68.8 rushing yards per game … also recorded 16 catches for 175 yards … tallied a record-breaking 90-yard touchdown rush against Rhode Island, the longest run from scrimmage by a Black Bear in history … ranked seventh in the league in rushing (68.8), sixth in yards per rush (5.9) and ninth in total rush yards (757).
Thurlow Cooper Rookies of the Year:
Jordan Dunn (offense) – Saw action in all 13 games with his first career start coming at Albany … made eight catches for 93 yards and a touchdown … averaged 11.6 yards per catch … scored his first career touchdown on Sept. 14 against Bryant.
Christophe Mulumba (defense) – CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year … ECAC FCS Defensive Rookie of the Year … CAA All-Conference First Team … Finished sixth in Jerry Rice FCS Rookie of the Year voting … FCS All-New England First Team … College Sports Journal FCS All-Freshman First Team … Four-time CAA Rookie of the Week … Finished the season with a team-high 118 tackles, good for fifth most in the league. … Recorded a pair of interceptions to go along with 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery … In Maine's win at Albany, Mulumba recorded 19-tackles which was the single game league high.
George Wood Outstanding Special Teams Player Award:
Arron Achey: Saw action in all 13 games … Tallied 28 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 3.5 total for loss … voted Maine's Special Teams Captain … honored to the CAA All-Academic team and the NFF Hampshire Honor Society.

"Maine Man" Strength & Conditioning Award:
Damarr Aultman – Started all 13 games … made 46 catches for 550 yards and five touchdowns ... averaged 42.3 yards per game ... also returned 25 kickoffs for 625 yards and a touchdown ... averaged 25 yards per kickoff return ... ranked third in the CAA in kickoff return yards per game ... led Maine in all-purpose yards per game (90.4) ... had three-straight games in which he caught a touchdown (Delaware, William & Mary, at Villanova) … recorded a season-long 88 yard kickoff return for a score in NCAA playoff game against New Hampshire (12/7), finished that game with 143 return yards.
