Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 243 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. One-hundred seventy five student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2011 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-eight first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 243, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.

Football Releases 2012 Schedule

Following a season where the Black Bears advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals and a #8 national final ranking, University of Maine football head coach Jack Cosgrove has announced the team’s 2012 schedule. Highlights of the schedule include the 100th meeting of the Maine vs. New Hampshire series which will also be Homecoming, as well as BCS-foe Boston College, which will be the 1,000th official game in the history of the program.
Former Black Bear Montell Owens Playing in Second Pro Bowl on Sunday

Former University of Maine football standout Montell Owens has been added to the AFC roster for the NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday. It will be his second-consecutive Pro Bowl.
McMillian and Howley Pick Up ECAC Honors; Black Bears Finish Season Ranked #8

University of Maine football standout Jerron McMillian has been honored as an ECAC First Team All-Star and College Sporting News All-American Honorable Mention. Offensive lineman Chris Howley was also honored as an ECAC Second Team All-Star.
