Black Bear Athletics Supports the New Martin Luther King Plaza

University of Maine football standouts Jovan Belcher (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Brandon McLaughlin (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were members of a planning committee for the new Martin Luther King Plaza, which held its dedication ceremony on Friday afternoon. The new plaza is right next to the Student Union on the Orono campus.

Belcher and McLaughlin helped pick out quotes that symbolized the life and times of Martin Luther King. Ten (10) quotes are displayed throughout the gathering area that can be read by visitors. The new area features fresh landscaping and a brick walkway. Benches will soon be placed in the area for visitors to sit and reflect.

Several Black Bear athletics teams were on hand for the event, including the football, men's basketball and women's basketball teams.
