Steven Swavely Named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine freshman forward Steven Swavely (Reading, Pa.) was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Monday. It was the first weekly honors announced by the conference this season.

Swavely scored just 3:41 into the season-opener against Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 6. His older brother, Jon, won the face-off back to him to pick up the lone assist on the goal.

Swavely becomes the first Black Bear to tally a goal in his collegiate debut since Adam Shemansky (Robbinsville, N.J.) accomplished the feat to open the 2009 campaign.

Swavely and the Black Bears travel to Kansas City, Mo. this week for the 2012 Ice Breaker Tournament. Maine faces Notre Dame on Friday at 7 PM eastern time.
