Jon Swavely and Martin Ouellette Honored by Hockey East
WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- University of Maine junior Jon Swavely (Reading, Pa.) was named the Athletic Republic Co-Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday, while teammate Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec) earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors. In addition, Maine was named Hockey East Team of the Week.
Maine swept then third-ranked Boston College 4-1 and 3-1 last weekend at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. It was the first sweep of a weekend series at Boston College since January 1993.
Swavely had an assist in Friday's game at Boston College and followed that up by scoring a pair of goals on Saturday against the Eagles. It was the first multi-goal game of his career.
Ouellette was outstanding, backstopping Maine's sweep at Boston College. He finished the week 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. Ouellette recorded a career-high 34 saves in the win on Friday. On Saturday, he finished nine seconds shy of a shutout, as the Eagles tallied their lone goal at 19:51 of the third period.
Swavely, Ouellette and the Black Bears return home when they host Providence on Friday, Feb. 1. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM at Alfond Arena. Tickets can be purchased online at www.goblackbearstickets.com or by calling 207-581-BEAR or 1-800-756-TEAM.
