Seventh Edition of Black Bears In the Pros

Maine hockey has numerous alumni excelling in various hockey leagues around the world. "Black Bears in the Pros", is taking a regular update at these players.

 
 
 

Featured Player of the Week: Former Maine goalie Jimmy Howard earned a spot on the U.S. Men's Ice Hockey Olympic Team. Last week, Howard played in front of 105,491 fans at the 2014 NHL Winter Classic against Toronto. He earned the game's second star as he made 24 saves in a game that went to a shootout. Following the game, the Olympic team was announced.

 
 

National Hockey League

 

Ben Bishop – Bishop has won the starting job for the Tampa Bay Lightning in goal and continues his impressive season for the Lightning. He is 22-5-3. He has a 1.86 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. He ranks tied for the NHL lead with four shutouts. He is second in save percentage, tied for second in wins and fourth in goal against average.  

 

Brian Flynn – Flynn has played in all 30 of 42 games for the Buffalo Sabres. He has three goals and three assist for six points on the season.

 

Jimmy Howard – Howard has started 24 games for the Detroit Red Wings this season. He is 7-9-8 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. He has two shutouts.

 

Gustav Nyquist – Nyquist has seen action in 18 games for the Detroit Red Wings. He scored two goals in his season debut, including a goal 17 seconds into the game. He also had the game-winning goal. He has five goals and four assist for nine points. Last week, he played in front of 105,491 fans in the 2014 Winter Classic, where he had a great play, nearly scoring a goal.

 

Dustin Penner – Penner is playing for the Anaheim Ducks. In 35 games, he ranks sixth on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points.

 

Teddy Purcell – Purcell ranks third on the Tampa Bay Lightning in scoring with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 42 games.  

 

Jack Capuano – Capuano is head coach of the New York Islanders. The team has a record of 14-22-7 and recorded a big win over the Boston Bruins last week.

 

Mike Dunham – Dunham is the goaltending coach for the New York Islanders.

 

Dave Nonis – General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team is 21-17-5 on the season.

 

Garth Snow – Snow is serving as the General Manager of the New York Islanders.

 

John Tortorella  Tortorella is head coach of the Vancouver Canucks. The team has a record of 23-13-8 on the season.

 

AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

 

Spencer Abbott – Made his NHL debut against Ottawa on Oct. 5. The rest of his action this season has come with the Toronto Marlies. He ranks second on the team in scoring with six goals and 25 assists for 21 points in 31 games.

 

Mike Cornell – Cornell is playing with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Cornell has two goals and four assists for six points in 20 games. Earlier this year he played for the Florida Everblades. He saw action in 12 games and has a goal and five assists.

 

Scott Darling – Darling has played in 14 games for the Milwaukee Admirals. He is 7-3-0 with a 1.92 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. He has three shutouts.  

 

Joey Diamond – Diamond has four goals and two assist for six points with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 19 games.

 

Matt Mangene - Mangene is playing for the Adirondack Phantoms. He has two goals and two assists for four points in 29 games. 

 

Will O'Neill – O'Neill has played in 27 games for the St. John's Ice Caps and has three goals and five assists for eight points.

 

Scott Pellerin – Pellerin is head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

 

EAST COAST HOCKEY LEAGUE

 
 

Mike Banwell – Banwell played a pair of games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He played in 24 games for the Reading Royals and has dished out seven assists.

 

Rob Bellamy – Bellamy has played in 30 games for the Elmira Jackals and ranks third on the team in scoring with eight goals and nine assists for 17 points.

 

Simon Danis-Pepin – Has a goal and seven assists for eight points in 24 games for the Ft. Wayne Komets.

 

David deKastrozza  – Has four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 29 games for the Idaho Steelheads.

 

Ryan Hegarty – Hegarty has played in 20 games for the Greenville Road Warriors and has a goal and three assists for four points.

 

Mark Nemec – Nemec has played in 32 games for the Colorado Eagles. He has a goal and five assists for six points. Nemec is tied for second on the team in +/- with a +17.   

 

CENTRAL HOCKEY LEAGUE

 

Matt Duffy – Duffy is playing for the Quad City Mallards. He has four goals and six assists for 10 points in 28 games. 

 

EUROPEAN / CANADIAN/ ASIA LEAGUE

 

Derek Damon – Damon is playing for HC Thurgau in Switzerland. In 32 games he has 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points.

 

Robby Dee – Dee played for Riessersee SC, a professional team in Germany. He had four goals and six assists for 10 points in 23 games. He is now playing for Stjernen in Norway. He has played in four goals and has a goal and four assists for five points.

 

Jeff Dimmen – Dimmen is playing for Anyang of the Asia Hockey League. He has six goals and 31 assists for 77 points in 32 games.

 

Frank Doyle – Playing for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League in England.  In 38 games he has a record of 22-14-0 with a 2.74 GAA and a .901 save percentage. He has a pair of shutouts. 

 

Greg Moore – Moore is playing for the EHC Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams in Germany. Has played in two games this season and is recovering from an injury.

 

Michel Léveillé – Leveille is playing for the Cool FM 103,5 de Saint-Georges of the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. He has 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 21 games.

 

Mike Lundin – Lundin is playing for Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia. He has four goals and 16 assists for 20 points in 41 games.

 

Alfie Michaud – Michaud is playing for SonderjyskE in the top Danish league.  In 20 games he has a 2.09 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.

 

Josh Soares – Soares is playing for IK Oskarshamn in Sweden. He has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 24 games.

 

Colin Shields – Shields is playing in the UK Elite League in Belfast. He has 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 29 games.

 

Travis Ramsey – Ramsey is playing for the Ritten-Renon in the Italian Elite A. He has eight assists in 26 games this season.
