Eighth Edition of Black Bears In the Pros

Maine hockey has numerous alumni excelling in various hockey leagues around the world. "Black Bears in the Pros", is taking a regular update at these players.

 
 

National Hockey League

 

Ben Bishop – Bishop has won the starting job for the Tampa Bay Lightning in goal and continues his impressive season for the Lightning. He is 23-6-4. He has a 1.90 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. He ranks second in the NHL in shutouts (4), second in save percentage (.935), third in goals against average (1.90) and fourth in wins (23).   

 

Brian Flynn – Flynn has played in 45 of 47 games for the Buffalo Sabres. He has three goals and three assist for six points on the season.

 

Jimmy Howard – Howard has started 28 games in goal for the Detroit Red Wings. He is 9-11-8 with a 2.58 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. He is one of three goalies named to the US Olympic Team. Monday, Jan. 20 is Jimmy Howard Bobblehead Night at Joe Louis Arena.

 

Gustav Nyquist – Nyquist has played in 23 games for the Detroit Red Wings and has five goals and six assists for 11 points.

 

Dustin Penner – Penner is playing for the Anaheim Ducks, the top team in the west. The Ducks have a record of 37-9-5 overall, 20-0-2 at home. In 40 games, he ranks sixth on the team in scoring with 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points.

 

Teddy Purcell – Purcell ranks third on the Tampa Bay Lightning in scoring with nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points in 49 games.  

 

Jack Capuano – Capuano is head coach of the New York Islanders. The team has a record of 19-24-7.

 

Mike Dunham – Dunham is the goaltending coach for the New York Islanders.

 

Dave Nonis – General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team is 25-20-5 on the season.

 

Garth Snow – Snow is serving as the General Manager of the New York Islanders.

 

John Tortorella  Tortorella is head coach of the Vancouver Canucks. The team has a record of 25-16-9 on the season.

 

AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

 

Spencer Abbott – Made his NHL debut against Ottawa on Oct. 5. The rest of his action this season has come with the Toronto Marlies. He is tied for the team-lead in scoring with nine goals and 29 assists for 38 points. He is tied for the team-lead in +/- with a +10.  

 

Mike Cornell – Cornell is playing with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Cornell has three goals and five assists for eight points in 26 games. Earlier this year he played for the Florida Everblades. He saw action in 12 games and has a goal and five assists.

 

Scott Darling – Darling has played in 15 games for the Milwaukee Admirals. He is 8-3-0 with a 2.18 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. He has three shutouts.  

 

Joey Diamond – Diamond has six goals and two assist for eight points with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 24 games.

 

Matt Mangene - Mangene is playing for the Adirondack Phantoms. He has two goals and three assists for five points in 34 games. 

 

Will O'Neill – O'Neill has played in 33 games for the St. John's Ice Caps and has five goals and eight assists for 13 points.

 

Scott Pellerin – Pellerin is head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

 

EAST COAST HOCKEY LEAGUE

 
 

Mike Banwell – Banwell played a pair of games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has played in 30 games for the Reading Royals and has dished out seven assists.

 

Rob Bellamy – Bellamy has played in 35 games for the Elmira Jackals and ranks third on the team in scoring with 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points.

 

Simon Danis-Pepin – Has a goal and seven assists for 10 points in 30 games for the Ft. Wayne Komets.

 

David deKastrozza  – Has four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 34 games for the Idaho Steelheads.

 

Ryan Hegarty – Hegarty has played in 26 games for the Greenville Road Warriors and has a goal and six assists for seven points.

 

Mark Nemec – Nemec has played in 37 games for the Colorado Eagles. He has two goals and six assists for eight points.

 

CENTRAL HOCKEY LEAGUE

 

Matt Duffy – Duffy is playing for the Quad City Mallards. He has four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 31 games. 

 

EUROPEAN / CANADIAN/ ASIA LEAGUE

 

Derek Damon – Damon is playing for HC Thurgau in Switzerland. In 35 games he has 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points.

 

Robby Dee – Dee played for Riessersee SC, a professional team in Germany. He had four goals and six assists for 10 points in 23 games. He is now playing for Stjernen in Norway. He has played in four goals and has a goal and four assists for five points.

 

Jeff Dimmen – Dimmen is playing for Anyang of the Asia Hockey League. He has seven goals and 32 assists for 39 points in 34 games.

 

Frank Doyle – Playing for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League in England.  In 42 games he has a record of 25-15-0 with a 2.63 GAA and a .906 save percentage. He has a pair of shutouts. 

 

Greg Moore – Moore is playing for the EHC Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams in Germany. Has played in two games this season and is recovering from an injury.

 

Michel Léveillé – Leveille is playing for the Cool FM 103,5 de Saint-Georges of the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. He has 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 21 games.

 

Mike Lundin – Lundin is playing for Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia. He has four goals and 18 assists for 22 points in 46 games.

 

Alfie Michaud – Michaud is playing for SonderjyskE in the top Danish league.  In 22 games he has a 2.16 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.

 

Josh Soares – Soares is playing for IK Oskarshamn in Sweden. He has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 26 games. He is now playing for the Graz 99ers in Austria. He has two goals and one assists for three points in four games.

 

Colin Shields – Shields is playing in the UK Elite League in Belfast. He has 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 36 games.

 

Travis Ramsey – Ramsey is playing for the Ritten-Renon in the Italian Elite A where he is serving as a captain. He has nine assists in 28 games this season.

 

Jean-Yves Roy, who played for the Black Bears and saw some time in the NHL in the late 1990's, is currently a Division I official.
