Gustav Nyquist Named to Swedish Olympic Team
Former University of Maine men's ice hockey standout Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) has been named to the Swedish men's Olympic ice hockey team. He replaces Red Wings teammate Johan Franzen, who is injured.
Nyquist has 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 30 games this season with the Red Wings. He scored a hat trick and added an assist in Detroit's game against the Washington Capitals on Feb. 2.
Nyquist played for the Black Bears from 2008-2009 through 2010-2011. In three years at Maine, he currently sits 19th on Maine's all-time scoring list with 50 goals and 94 assists for 144 points in 113 career games. A two-time All-American, Nyquist was named to the Hobey Baker Hat Trick in 2010.
Nyquist becomes the 13th player in Maine men's ice hockey history to represent their country in the Olympics.
