ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine men's ice hockey goalie Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec) was named the Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second time this season that Ouellette has earned the honor. He was also named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 31, 2013.
Ouellette shares the honor with Northeastern's Clay Witt.
Ouellette had an outstanding weekend as the Black Bears split a pair of games at Notre Dame. He finished 1-1-0 on the weekend with a 2.01 goals against average and a .949 save percentage. On Friday, Ouellette made 36 saves in Maine's 2-1 victory over the Irish. On Saturday, Ouellette tied his career-high with 39 saves. Two of the four goals he allowed on the weekend were when Notre Dame had pulled their goalie in favor on an extra attacker.
Ouellette is 12-10-3 on the season with a 2.08 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.
Ouellete and the Black Bears return to action when they host Merrimack for a two-game series this weekend. Games at Friday, Feb. 14 and Sat., Feb. 15 with puck drop scheduled for 7 PM each night.
