July 1, 2008
ORONO, Maine--University of Maine men's soccer coach Pat Laughlin announced today that he has hired Trevor Singer as an assistant coach. Singer comes to the Black Bears via UMass where he was part of a team last season that finished as national semifinalists. Singer replaces Christopher Parsons, who recently accepted the head coaching position at the University of Maine at Farmington. "Trevor has been very successful as a player winning a National ODP Championship with Eastern Pennsylvania and helping UMass to the NCAA final four," said Laughlin. "He is a driven individual who will bring a great deal of energy to the program. I am very happy that Trevor will continue his coaching career with the University of Maine." "I would like to thank Pat Laughlin and the Athletic Administration at Maine for this wonderful and exciting opportunity," said Singer. "I'm confident Pat and I will be able to create a successful program and atmosphere at Maine in terms of both academic and soccer related success." Singer, a back, played the past two seasons at UMass after transferring from Rider University. At UMass, he was part of a defensive unit that posted a single season record of 10 shutouts in 19 games last season. The Minutemen finished as 2007 Atlantic 10 Champions and were national semifinalists after participating in the 2007 NCAA College Cup. The team was ranked fourth nationally by the NSCAA/Adidas National rankings. "I am so excited for Trevor and his new post," said UMass head coach Sam Koch. "Having gone to school in Maine, I think it is a great place and I am excited for him to get a chance to live there and get the flavor of the Maine people in one of the best states in the Northeast. I feel he will give the Maine soccer program fantastic energy and loyalty that will help the program move forward with Pat Laughlin's leadership. His outstanding work rate, soccer mind, and willingness to learn and to continue to learn will only help the program go forward. He is going to be a great addition to the Athletic Department and the University. He will represent the University of Maine with dignity and class. I wish all the best except when they play us."
Prior to UMass, Singer played two seasons at Rider University where he saw action in 31 games, making 22 starts his first two seasons. He was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team and MAAC All-Academic Team. He received a Rider student-athlete award. Singer was a two-time captain for his Owen J. Roberts High School team. He was a three-time All-League First Team selection and a three-time All-Area selection. He has been selected to the All-Southeastern Pennsylvania Team and the All-State Team for Pennsylvania. He also has extensive Club Soccer experience as he has played with FC Coppa, FC Premier, West Chester United Soccer Club, FC Delco and the Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development Program. A native of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., Singer grew up in Pheonixville, Pa. He is a 2008 graduate of UMass with a BBA in Marketing from the UMass Isenberg School of Management.
