LEWISTON, Maine- The University of Maine men's swimming team participated in the Maine Meet at Bates College on Saturday afternoon. Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine), Caleb Hoffman (Waterville, Maine) and Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.) qualified for the ECAC's.
The men's swimming team competed in the Maine meet as a way for the swimmers to qualify for championships.
Maine started off strong finishing one through eight in the 500-yard freestyle. Williams finished first (4:48.94) followed by Robbie Bickford (Milford, Maine in second (4:51.23) and Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) in third (4:51.33).
In the 100-yard backstroke Caleb Hoffman touched for second place (1:00.69). Hoffman took first in the 200-yard breaststroke breaking the pool record at (2:10.18). In the 200 yard backstroke John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) took the gold (1:59.27) and Will Hoffman (Waterville, Maine) grabbed third place (2:06.32).
Senior Joey Quinn (Bangor, Maine) won the 100-yard freestyle (48.92) and David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) took fourth (49.35). Freshman Taylor Ottman (Morrill, Maine) grabbed a first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:17.64).
In the 800-yard freestyle relay Maine led the way in first place and broke the Bates pool record with Williams, Ryan Fahey, Vittori and Cody Lachance (Winslow, Maine) finishing with a time of (7:07.41). Fahey also took first in the 400-yard IM breaking the pool record at (4:13.14) followed by Williams and Lachance.
Bickford picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle at (1:48.07). Carlucci won the 100-yard butterfly (53.61). In the 50-yard freestyle Kinnon nabbed second place (22.39) and Quinn took third (22.45).
Maine will get ready for the ECAC's, which will take place Feb 28th-March 2nd at the U.S. Naval Academy.
