ANNAPOLIS, Md- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams completed day one of the ECAC's at the U.S. Naval Academy. Maine men set a new school record in the 400-yard medley relay. John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn,) set a new school record in the 200 IM in the morning session.
Maine started off the finals with a seventh place finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine), John McLeod (Wiscasset, Maine), Matt England (Bangor, Maine) and Sergey Terrio (Oakland, Maine) led the way for the Black Bears with a time of 1:25.19.
Senior Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) finished seventh overall in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.13.
The men's 400-yard medley relay set a new school record 3:26.33. Competing in the relay was England, Terrio, John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) and Caleb Hoffman (Waterville, Maine). England set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke to lead off the relay (50.12).
Ethan Eckoff (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished sixth place in the three-meter with a personal best of 221.95 points.
Maine started off the day with the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. Competing for the Black Bears was David Vittori , John McLeod , Matt England and Sergey Terrio. The men finished fourth 1:25.85.
Carlucci set a new school record in the 200-yard IM at 154.17. Teammate Connor Devers (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished 26th 1:57.55.
Dwyer earned a spot in the finals in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.13.
England competed in the 50-yard free with a 19th place finish 21.54 followed by McLeod in 23rd 21.78.
In the diving prelims, Eckoff finished sixth in the three-meter with 206.60 points.
Day two resumes Saturday with prelims at 10am and finals starting at 6pm.
