Gagne Leads Men's Track on Final Day of America East Championships
ORONO, Maine – Justin Gagne (Biddeford, Maine) won the discus and took second in the shot put to lead the University of Maine men's track and field team in the final day of the America East Track and Field Championships.
Gagne won the discus with an IC4A-qualifying throw of 169-01, the second-best throw in school history. His throw of 55-05.75 in the shot put was also the second-best in school history and also qualified for the IC4A Championships.
Brian Woodbury (Scarborough, Maine) was sixth in the shot put with a top-10 school mark of 49-08.50 while Matthew Toothaker (Newburgh, Maine) was seventh in the decathlon with 5,613 points, a top-10 school mark.
Frank Del Duca (Bethel, Maine) took fifth in the 100-meter finals with a time of 10.89, a top-10 school time while freshman Jake Leithiser (Old Town, Maine) was fifth in the 400-meter finals with a top-5 school time of 48.58.
The 4X100 relay team of August Ibekilo (Saco, Maine), Leithiser, Daniel Roukey (Westbrook, Maine) and Del Duca took runner-up honors in a time of 41.92, a top-5 school mark while the 4X400 relay of Scott Merrill (Scarborough, Maine), Roukey, Del Duca and Leithiser was fifth with a time of 3:18.76.
Nathaniel Meade (Waldoboro, Maine) and Herby Lafortune (Somerville, Mass.) took third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump with top-10 school marks of 47-00.25 and 45-01.75.
The men's team took fourth with 97.50 points. Albany won the title with 181 points.
