Reed Leads Men's Track to Win at Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, Maine – James Reed (Garmisch, Germany) set the school record in the 60 meter hurdles and qualified for the IC4A Championships to lead the University of Maine men's track and field team to a win at the Bates Invitational with 239.50 points.

 

Reed won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.10 seconds, beating his own school record by a tenth of a second.

 

Frank Del Duca (Bethel, Maine) won a pair of events, including the 60 meters in a top-5 school time of 7.01, which just missed qualifying for the IC4A Championships. He also won the long jump with 22-05.75.

 

Kelton Cullenberg (Chesterville, Maine) won the 5,000 in a time of 15:26.85 as well as the 3,000 with a time of 8:35.80.

 

Alexander Moser (York Harbor, Maine) also won a pair of events, taking the mile in 4:20.04 and the 1,000 in a time of 2:34.00.

 
Jake Leithiser (Old Town, Maine) won the heptathlon with 4,782 points, a top-5 school mark, by taking the high jump with a mark of 6-05.00, winning the 1,000 with a time of 2:45.42 and winning the long jump with 21-08.00. James Rutter (Portland, Maine) was just behind Leithiser in third with 4,578 points. Rutter's highlights included winning the pole vault with 12-09.50, winning the shot put with 39-06.50 and taking second in the long jump with 20-08.50.

Paul Kelley (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the 400 in a time of 51.39, Liam Nee (Cornish, Maine) won the 800 in 1:57.93 and Tyler Martin won the high jump in 6-06.25.

 

The Black Bear 4X800 relay team of Liam Nee, Logan Nee (Cornish, Maine), Moser and Ryan Hardiman (Brookline, Mass.) won in a time of 8:11.40.
