Maine Men’s Track and Field Sweeps America East Track and Field Athlete of the Week Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Black Bears had two members of its track and field team honored as this week's America East track and field athletes of the week. Both James Reed and Nathaniel Meade were recognized for their accomplishments at the Bates Invitational in Lewiston, Maine, last Friday and Saturday.
Reed was named America East track athlete of the week after his back-to-back first round finishes in the 60-meter hurdle and 60-meter dash. He took top honors in the 60-meter Hurdle with a time of 8.09 seconds and followed it up with a 60m-dash time of 6.98. Reed bested 19 entrants in the 60-meter dash and 14 in the 60m hurdles
Nathaniel Meade also had a strong Bates Invite, highlighted by a new program mark in the triple jump, finishing the event with a distance of 49-02.25, besting a mark of 48-11.00 set by Dan Cochrane in 1976. Meade also took first in the long jump (22-06.05).
The Black Bears will be in action in two different meets this weekend, competing in the Joe Donahue Invitational on Friday hosted by Holy Cross and then the John Thomas Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday. The meet times are 3 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
