ATHENS, Ga. – As graduates crossed the stage at commencement in Orono, Maine this afternoon, four members of Maine men's track and field crossed the finish line as the squad competed at the Georgia Invite, in Athens, Ga. Nathaniel Meade, Daniel Roukey, Frank Del Duca and James Reed all kept their outdoor seasons going in their respective events.
In the field event, Meade impressed in the triple jump as he took second overall with a mark of 14.85m (48-08.75). Alex May from Alabama-Huntsville was the only entrant to best Meade with a mark of 14.91 (48-11.00).
In the sprint events both Roukey and Del Duca competed in both the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, Del Duca was the highest Maine competitor, coming in 12th with a time of 10.75 seconds, while Roukey finished in 17th, clocking in at 10.87 seconds. South Carolina's Chris Royster topped the field with a time of 10.36 seconds.
Meanwhile in the 200m Roukey was the best Maine entrant with a time of 22.03 and a 15th place finish, while Del Duca came in shortly thereafter with a time of 22.36 and 16th place.
The quartet then combined in the 4x100 relay, coming in just behind South Carolina's team, taking second place with a time of 41.70 seconds.
