ORONO, Maine – Even though classes are over and graduation has long let out, it hasn't stopped a small contingent of Maine track and field athletes from traveling to Princeton, N.J. for the ECAC IC4A championship this weekend. Two of the Black Bears' top competitors have already competed as Kelton Cullenberg and Jessica McCarthy participated in their respective events.
On the men's side, senior Kelton Cullenberg completed his final collegiate running event, competing in the 5k and coming ninth overall. He clocked in with a time of 14:26.61. La Salle senior, Alfredo Santana took first overall in the event with a mark of 14:16.42.
The senior from Chesterville, Maine, reflected on his final race via twitter last night saying: "The end of collegiate racing. Never have been more proud to wear the Maine uniform than my last few races. I will always be a Black Bear."
On the women's side, fresh off her New England championship heptathlon win just one weekend ago, McCarthy began another bid for a heptathlon win. She started off with a 12th place finish in the 100-meter dash as she clocked in with a time of 15.31 seconds. She also earned 801 event points.
McCarthy then competed in the high jump where she took 11th overall with a mark of 1.53m (5-00.25) and 655 event points.
The third event was the high jump as McCarthy cracked the top-10 with a mark of 10.19m (33-05.25) and 542 team points, coming in 10th overall.
