CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Maine men's track and field standouts, Wilson Adams and Kelton Cullenberg were honored by the conference on Tuesday, as they were named to the 2014 America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team. The junior thrower and senior distance runner joined eight other athletes on the exclusive team.
Wilson Adams turned in another sterling campaign in which he reeled in his second America East outdoor title in the hammer throw and fourth overall championship between indoor and outdoor competition. Adams has made a habit of knocking down records this season, continuing the trend he set in the indoor season, at the America East championship as he set the new program standard in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.46m (191' 9"). Adams had previously bested Richard Nason's 50-year old record of 187-07.50 at the Penn Relays as he tallied a final heave of 57.66m (189' 2"). Adams concluded his outdoor campaign at the ECAC/IC4A competition, as the Barrington, R.I., native finished 11th in the field with a mark of 57.05m (187' 2). This is the second time in his career that Adams has been placed on the outdoor all-academic team, with his last coming in 2012. Adams also was named to the all-conference team in the same year.
Cullenberg also earned the honor for the second time in his career in the outdoor season. The Chesterville, Maine, native was recently named a finalist for the America East Man of the year award as well as receiving the prestigious Deen Smith "M Club" award for his work on the track and in the classroom. This season the senior distance runner set two new personal bests in the 1500-meter run (3:54.56) and 5k (14:25.06) at the Holy Cross Invite and Penn Relays, respectively. Likewise Cullenberg capped his senior campaign with another 5k championship with a time of 14:29.42.
This is the second time this season that this duo has been paired together, as both Adams and Cullenberg were indoor track and field all-academic team award winners.
