Men's Cross Country Selected Third in Preseason Poll; Women Tied for Fourth

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's cross country team has been selected to finish third in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. The women's team was selected tied for fourth.

Defending champion Boston University was selected the men's favorite with all eight possible first-place votes. Albany was selected second, followed by Maine, Binghamton and New Hampshire. Stony Brook was selected sixth followed by UMBC, Vermont and Hartford.

The Black Bears will be led this year by defending America East Champion Riley Masters (Bangor, Maine). Fellow seniors Spencer McElwain (Caribou, Maine) and David Currier (Sidney, Maine) will look to help push the team for a run at the title.

On the women's side, Stony Brook was selected the favorite with Boston University second. New Hampshire was third, followed by Maine and Vermont tied for fourth. Albany was sixth with Binghamton, UMBC and Hartford rounding out the poll.

The Black Bear women will be led by 2009 America East champion and two-time NCAA Championship participant Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.). Jennifer Lucy (Bangor, Maine) and Hilary Maxim (Old Town, Maine), both seniors, will also contribute with hopes of besting their 2009 America East runner-up team finish.

Both teams are in action Sept. 3 at New Hampshire.
