Cullenberg Earns America East Cross Country Performer of the Week Award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four days after attaining his first, first-place finish of the season, senior runner, Kelton Cullenberg garnered accolades for his efforts at the UMass invitational as he was named America East Cross Country Performer of the Week. This is the second-time Cullenberg has received conference cross-country POTW honors in his Maine career.
The Chesterville, Maine native turned in an impressive performance at the 2013 UMass Cross Country Invitational in Amherst, Mass., last Saturday, besting a field of 65 entrants. Cullenberg was the top-overall finisher, coming in with a time of 19:15.2.
The senior distance runner wasn't the only one to tally an impressive finish. Every Black Bears runner on the men's side finished in 39th place or higher, with four runners placing in the top-17.
Cullenberg and his teammates came in second-overall in the meet, as the squad was edged by Connecticut by just six points. The Black Bears defeated UMass, Boston College, Vermont and Amherst in the team-scoring standings with 69 points.
The Maine men's cross country team is now ranked 12th in the USTFCCCA DI Northeast Region.
Maine cross country will return to Orono, Maine this Friday when it hosts New Hampshire in the third meet of the season. The contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
