Liz Wood Earns Second-Straight America East Rookie of the Week Award
ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine women's basketball freshman standout Liz Wood (Catlett, Va.) has earned her second-straight, and fourth overall, America East Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Wood averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 1.5 blocks over the past week.
Wood continued her strong play of late as she helped lead the Black Bears to their first conference win. Wood, who shot 52% over the week, scored a career-high 22 points at Vermont, marking the third-straight game the freshman tallied a career-high in points. Wood also notched six rebounds and four steals while going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc at Vermont. In Maine's 67-51 win over Stony Brook, Wood recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks while shooting 55.6% from the field. Wood has now scored in double-figures in each of her last four games.
The Black Bears continue America East action as they travel to meet New Hampshire on Tuesday night at 7 PM.
