ALBANY, N.Y. -- University of Maine women's basketball standouts Ashleigh Roberts (Wilmington, Del.) and Liz Wood (Catlett, Va.) have each been named to the America East All-Conference second team, as announced at the conference's annual awards banquet held at UAlbany on Thursday evening. Wood also earned All-Academic team honors for her efforts in the classroom and earned a spot on the All-Defensive team.

Roberts, a senior guard, led the Black Bears in scoring as her 13.4 points ranked sixth in the league at the end of the regular season. Roberts also chipped in 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals. The senior's 48.0-percent shooting mark from the floor ranked third best among conference leaders. Throughout the season, Roberts kept moving up the all-time ranks at Maine as she ended the season tied for 10th all-time in scoring at 1,194 points. Roberts also became just the 13th Black Bear in history to record 1,000+ points and 500+ rebounds in a career.

Wood, who was also named to both the All-Academic and All-Defensive teams, ranked in the top 10 in several America East categories including points (12.4), rebounds (6.7), assists (2.9) and steals (2.0). Maine's sophomore forward led the Black Bears in rebounding and steals throughout the year while shooting 43.7-percent from the floor. Wood tallied four double-doubles on the year and recorded the 650th point of her career in Maine's regular season finale at New Hampshire. Wood, a biology major with a pre medical studies minor in the honors college, was also honored to the America East All-Academic team.

Roberts and Wood are the first Black Bears to be named to the All-America East second team since Ashley Underwood did so in 2007.

Postseason play gets underway for the Black Bears on Friday, March 7 when they take on #5 seeded Hartford at 8:15 PM in America East quarterfinal action. Fans can tune into the game live on ESPN3 or listen live on the Black Bears Sports Network.
