Six Former Women's Basketball Stars to be Inducted into New England Basketball Hall of Fame

Six former University of Maine women's basketball stars will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on June 22nd at 6:00 PM at the DCU Convention Center in Worcester, Mass. Those who will be honored include former student-athletes Jamie Cassidy, Heather Ernest, Emily Ellis and Amy Vachon along with former coaches Joanne P. McCallie and Sharon Versyp.

University of Maine women's basketball head coach Richard Barron has announced that Sheraton Jones (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and Kianna Mayers (Irvington, N.J.) have completed their National Letters of Intent and will be joining the Black Bears in the fall of 2013.

The staff at College Sports Madness has named Liz Wood (Catlett, Va.) the America East Freshman of the Year, as announced by the website on Tuesday morning. Wood led all America East freshmen in scoring as she averaged 10.3 points and 6.6 rebounds.
Liz Wood Named America East Co-Rookie of the Year

University of Maine freshman standout Liz Wood (Catlett, Va.) has been named America East Co-Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference at the annual awards banquet hosted by SEFCU arena on Thursday evening. Wood, who led all America East Rookies in scoring and rebounding throughout the 2012-13 season, was also named to the 2012-13 America East All-Rookie team.

The University of Maine women's basketball team and athletic officials have announced they will not participate in the 2013 America East Basketball Championship at the University of Albany that begins Friday, March 9.
