The University of Maine women's basketball team travels to West Hartford, Conn., to take part in the 2008 America East Tournament, beginning on Thursday night at Chase Arena on the campus of the University of Hartford. The eighth-seeded Black Bears will take on ninth-seeded Stony Brook in the opening round at 7 p.m. Both teams finished the regular season with 7-22 overall records, while the Black Bears went 4-12 in the league and Stony Brook went 2-14.

Maine and Stony Brook met twice this season with each winning on their respective home court. The Seawolves pulled out a 72-65 win at the SBU Athletic Complex back on Jan. 16, while the Black Bears earned a 55-53 win in Alfond Arena a month later on Feb. 16. That win for Maine snapped a five-game losing streak to Stony Brook.

Sophomore guard Amanda Tewksbury averaged 16.5 points per game versus Stony Brook this season, including scoring a then-career high 17 points at SBU. Junior forward Colleen Kilmurray averaged 12.5 points per game against the Seawolves, while sophomore front court-mate Brittany Boser tossed in an average of 9.5 points per outing.

Tewksbury led Maine in scoring in all games this season at 9.1 points per contest. Kilmurray pulled down a team-best 5.0 rebounds per game, and senior guard Kris Younan dished out a team-high 3.1 assists a night.

Stony Brook is led by senior forward Dana Ferraro, who led the league in rebounding this season at 8.7 boards per game. Aly Young led the Seawolves in scoring at 10.0 points per game.

The Black Bears are 34-15 all-time in the America East Tournament, but have never faced Stony Brook in the post-season. Maine is 1-0 all-time in the opening round, including a 73-56 win over Albany two years ago. The Black Bears have won at least one game in the conference tournament in three of the last five years.
