Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia), Stephanie Gardiner (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Jocelyn Mitchell (Kanata, Ontario) have been named to the Senior Canadian National Squad while current Black Bear Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) has been named an alternate to the team.

Field Hockey America East Co-Rookie of the Year Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, B.C.) is a member of the Canadian Women's Junior National U21 (WJNT). Stewart has made it through the first round of cuts as she has been named a member of the squad that will be traveling to Argentina.

Field Hockey Honored With Eighth-Straight D-I National Academic Team Award; Nine Honored to NFHCA Academic Squad
It has been announced that the 2011 University of Maine field hockey squad has been honored with the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. It is the eighth-straight year that the Black Bears have been honored with the academic award. In addition, nine Black Bears were named to the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.

#13 Maine Field Hockey Falls in Semi-Final Round to #17 Boston University, 4-0
DURHAM, N.H. -- The #13 Maine Black Bears’ field hockey fantastic 2011 campaign came to an end on Friday evening as the Black Bears dropped a 4-0 decision to #17 Boston University in the semi-finals of the America East Championships held at Memorial Field on the campus of the University of New Hampshire. The Black Bears finish the season at 16-4 overall while Boston University improves to 11-8.

The combination of Lelia Sacré's (North Delta, British Columbia) first career hat trick and a shutout by fellow senior Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia) propelled the Black Bears to a 4-0 victory over visiting Vermont on Saturday afternoon. The win moves Maine to 16-3 and 3-2 in America East play while Vermont falls to 6-11 and 0-5 in conference play.

Maine Collects 3-0 Shutout Victory Over Rutgers
The #13 University of Maine Black Bear field hockey team used the combination of solid defense and a great attack to defeat Rutgers 3-0 in a neutral site game held at Garber Field on the campus of UMass Saturday afternoon. The win moves Maine to 15-3 overall while Rutgers drops to 4-11. Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied a goal and an assist for the Black Bears while Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia) picked up the shutout in the cage for Maine.

The #10 University of Maine field hockey team dropped a hard fought 2-1 decision to #19 Boston University on Sunday afternoon at the Maine Field Hockey Complex. The loss snaps Maine's winning streak at 11 games and drops the Black Bears back to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in America East play. The Terriers improve to 8-5 and 2-0 in conference play. Zoe Berkey (Duncan, British Columbia) tallied the lone goal for the Black Bears.

The University of Maine field hockey team has been ranked 10th in the most recent national polls released on Tuesday afternoon. The #10 Black Bears are ranked 10th in both the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll as well as the WomensFieldHockey.Com poll. This is the highest ranking the Black Bears have ever received.

Zoe Berkey (Duncan, British Columbia), Abbey Gutowski (Conway, N.H.), Annabelle Hamilton (North Vancouver, British Columbia), Hannah Keating (York, Maine), Becca Paradee (Gardiner, Maine), Bri Robertson (Bradley, Maine) and Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) have all committed to attend the University of Maine, starting in the fall of 2011, and play for the Black Bear Field Hockey team.
