Kelly Newton Garners America East Player of the Week Honor

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- University of Maine Field Hockey standout Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) has been named the America East Player of the Week for the second time this season. Newton tallied a pair of goals in Maine's 4-3 overtime win against #17 Albany.

Newton gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead when she tipped a shot into the back of the cage at the 19:54 mark of the first half before tipping in the game-winner, 2:53 into overtime.

This is the second time the senior co-captain has been honored with the award this season as she was named America East Player of the Week on Sept. 19 as she recorded a 10 point week on three goals and four assists.

Newton, the all-time leader in goals, assists and points at Maine, currently has 10 goals and 18 assists for 38 total points on the year.

Maine will be looking for its 12th win in a row when it host #18 Boston University on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.
