Field Hockey Comes Up Short Against Central Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Erin Dye's goal 26:23 into the opening half proved to be the difference as the University of Maine field hockey squad fell 1-0 to Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The loss slips Maine back to 1-3 on the season while the Chippewas improve to 3-1. Zoe Adkins (Coquitlam, British Columbia) paced the Black Bear attack with four shots.
Central Michigan scored off a penalty corner 26:23 into the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Cayleigh Immelman's shot off the corner was saved by Maine goalkeeper Alicia Frisch (Calgary, Alberta). However, Dye was able to control the rebound and scored for the first and only goal of the afternoon.
The Black Bears had their chances to tie things up, including holding an 8-6 edge in penalty corners, but could not find the back of the cage.
Elke Jacobse (Badhoevedorp, Netherlands), Katie Bingle (Selby, England) and Adkins each recorded shots on goal for the Black Bears.
Frisch picks up the loss in the cage and falls to 1-1 after making five saves and allowing just one goal.
Maine returns to action tomorrow when it battles Michigan at 2 p.m.
